The mining company has been pumping water out of the pits in order to do more mining. On the right you can see where the light rocks meet the dark ones where the water usually would be. Now the water is so low you can walk across the pit completely.
Here’s what it would normally look like from above. The sand that you can see underwater is the area where the photo above was taken. It now connects completely to the other side where the abandoned blasting powder company is.. more on that later.
As we were walking around checking it out, we made a few interesting finds. Here’s one:
A Wyoming license plate. How it got into this pit in northern Minnesota is a mystery.
